Biography of Sokly Sa
Born in a Cambodian refugee camp in Thailand in 1984, Sokly Sa immigrated to Canada at a young age and has proudly called Canada home for more than 35 years. Becoming a Canadian citizen on his 10th birthday marked a defining milestone in his life, shaping a deep appreciation for opportunity, resilience, and community. From an early age, Sokly demonstrated a strong commitment to academics, leadership, and personal growth, earning numerous recognitions during his youth for both scholastic achievement and civic involvement.
Throughout his school years, Sokly excelled academically and was recognized with several prestigious honours, including the Optimist Club’s Youth Appreciation Award, Optimist Club’s Oratorical Award, Lion’s Club Oratorical Award, and a Citizenship Award. His curiosity and passion for technology emerged early in childhood. Beginning in kindergarten, he spent time exploring computer games and learning system tricks on his uncle’s Commodore 64. By grade 6, he was voluntarily staying indoors during recess to experiment with Sim City on the classroom computer, further fueling his fascination with computers and digital systems.
In grade 7, Sokly became involved with the CivNet computer group, where students connected through games such as Civilization and Doom. It was during this time that he met his friend John W., who introduced and encouraged him to learn HTML — a moment that would later influence Sokly’s professional career in web development and digital technology. His passion for technology continued to grow alongside a broad range of extracurricular interests throughout high school.
During high school, Sokly immersed himself in school life and leadership activities. He participated in the school band, science club, chess club, and sound & light crew, while also serving as an elected member of student council. In grade 10, he campaigned for Vice-President of the student council and briefly served after the election before resigning. He also demonstrated strong analytical and strategic skills by winning his school’s stock market challenge competition. Despite facing significant health challenges that interrupted his traditional academic path, Sokly persevered and completed his final year of high school through the St. Thomas Adult Learning Centre, graduating as Valedictorian in 2005.
Following graduation, Sokly pursued post-secondary education in technology and software development. He studied as a Programmer Analyst/Web Developer at CDI College/Everest College in London, Ontario, graduating in 2007. He further expanded his education through studies at Fanshawe College and Athabasca University, continuing to build expertise in technology, development, and digital systems.
Professionally, Sokly began building his career as an entrepreneur and Web Developer in 2011, creating websites independently to establish his portfolio and professional reputation. His growing expertise led to opportunities with several organizations, including the Strategy Institute in Toronto, where he worked as a Web Developer, followed by a role with the Digital Internet Group (digOnline) as a Front-end Website Designer/Developer. He later served as an Intermediate Web/Application Developer with EyeLook Media, further strengthening his experience in both development and digital design.
In addition to development work, Sokly gained valuable technical support and infrastructure experience through positions with Teletech (supporting Charter Cable customers), Convergys (supporting AT&T customers), and Execulink Telecom. He also worked as an Infrastructure Analyst with Marriott International, broadening his expertise in enterprise systems, customer service, and technical operations.
In 2020, Sokly founded The Lucky Tekkie Inc., operating under the brand Spark + Spring. As CEO, he has combined his lifelong passion for technology, creativity, and entrepreneurship to help businesses strengthen their digital presence and marketing capabilities. Throughout his career as a Web Developer and digital professional, Sokly has successfully launched more than 30 websites, playing active roles in both design and development.
Today, Sokly continues to pursue his vision of building Spark + Spring into an industry-leading company dedicated to helping small businesses succeed through effective marketing, innovative technology, and meaningful digital experiences.
